The city of Novi is bustling with energy. The population has been steadily increasing over the years. According to the 2013 census, the population is very nearly 60,000. The population increase of 7.3% from 2010 to 2013 is the 2nd largest population increase in southeast Michigan. Currently, Novi is the 8th largest community (out of 59) in Oakland County. The city proudly advertises itself as a global community with a very diverse population of both residents and businesses.
Location, Location, Location!
Novi is easily accessible as it is located at the junction of 3 main highways (I-696, M-5 and I-96/I-275). This also means that other destinations in pretty much any direction can be easily reached, providing many great resources for healthcare, technology and the automotive industry. I-696 History
I-696, otherwise known as the Walter P. Reuther Freeway, was built in 3 different stages and was not completed until 1989.
- The first portion built was the stretch from I-96 in Novi to US-24/Telegraph Rd and M-10/John C. Lodge Frwy (then called US-10/Northwestern Hwy).
- The section from I-75 to I-94 stretch on Metro Detroit’s east side was second to be done. The 2 separate portions constructed left a 7 mile gap in the freeway for almost 15 years.
- Finally, the stretch between US-24/Telegraph Rd in Southfield and I-75/Walter P. Chrysler Frwy in Madison Heights was completed which finalized
