Veneklasen bricks have personal significance to me because my great great uncle and his wife started the company. In 1848 Jan Veneklasen created these notable bricks that ended up being used in hundreds of large buildings in the Holland and Zeeland area. The bricks have a creamy red color and there are many of these brick houses left in the area today, including a couple of buildings on Hope College’s campus. A Veneklasen brick display can also be seen at the Holland Museum.
