South Lyon, Michigan started out as a swampy area in Southeastern Michigan.  The first settlers of South Lyon came from the Wayne County area.  They wanted to move away from the hustle and bustle of the growing city life in Detroit.  In 1832, the swampy land that they settled on was named Thompson’s Corners, presumably named after one of the first settlers, though, the first settler is unknown.  Soon, schools, stores and churches would pop up due to the growing population. South Lyon was incorporated as a village in the 1873. (Images of America)
