Royal Oak: Current Economic Development and Educational Achievments

Royal Oak’s Current Economic Development and Educational Achievements:

Royal Oak has had fantastic success in the sectors of economic development and educational achievements.  It is the home of the Detroit Zoo, which houses over 2,500 animals from more than 270 species.  The zoo consistently ranks among the top tier nationally and recently built a $30 million penguin exhibit that opened on April 18th, 2016. Another great example of both educational advances and economic success is the presence of William Beaumont Hospital.  Nationally ranked in nine specialties, Beaumont is second only to the University of Michigan Health System in Michigan.  The city is comprised of one large public high school, one middle school, and several elementary schools.  There are several private parochial schools.  One, Shrine Catholic, is a National Blue Ribbon School and my own alma mater.  It has produced several important graduates, such as Tom Lewand, former president of the Detroit Lions and now CEO of Shinola, the trendy Detroit watch company.  Royal Oak also houses one of Oakland Community College’s campuses in its downtown district.  The college is one of the largest multi-campus community colleges in the United States.

The downtown district is well known throughout suburban Detroit as an eclectic mix of restaurants and entertainment venues.  Young professionals find the city a place to live and play.  The real estate market for apartments is exploding with many being built to house all that want to live here.  Royal Oak’s economic, educational and cultural development is extremely healthy and is expanding rapidly.
