Paper production was once a thriving industry in Kalamazoo during the early 1920s and late 1960s. The dense and abundant forests in western Michigan allowed logging to prosper. With a multitude of lumber to be converted to paper in the area, Kalamazoo became the perfect city for the expansion of the paper industry. The company known as the Allied Paper Corporation was incorporated in 1921 (then known as Allied Paper Mills) following the merger of three local western Michigan paper companies.(The Monarch Paper Company, the King Paper Company, and the Bardeen Paper Company)
