Livonia is the ninth-largest city in Michigan with a population of just under 100,000. Livonia, as the above city motto suggests, always aims to please its citizens and in Livonia those citizens are most often families. As such, Livonia is the quintessential American suburb, though unique in its own way. Livonia boasts 1389 acres of “recreational open space.” There are three public golf courses in the city, as well as the Livonia Recreation Center (or the Rec as Livonians refer to it) that comes with massive exercise facilities, game rooms, basketball courts, playsets, and a large pool with a winding tube slide. For Livonian teens, the Rec replaced the mall as the essential after-school hangout spot.
