Home: an Introduction to Northville

Northville, Michigan is located in Southeast Michigan.  It is divided in both Oakland and Wayne county.  Northville is connected to the larger Detroit Metropolitian area via the highways I-96, I-275, I-696, and M-14.  The city is 18 miles away from Ann Arbor, 31 miles from Detroit and 50 miles from Lansing.  The Northville area is legally divded between Northville Township and the city of Northville, the township being the larger of the two.  The combined area of Northville is 18.7 square miles with a combined population of 34,449 people.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the median age of a person living in Northville is 39.7, showing an aging population as compared to the 2000 census.  The city also showed greater diversity between 2000 and 2010, with the white population by 2 percent.  Overall, there has been a population decrease between 2000 and 2010 as well.  Below is the population projections for Northville:

Mayor

The current mayor of Northville is Christopher J. Johnson.  He was first elected mayor in 1987 and is a 1973 graduate of Northville High School.  He is credited for his work on maintaining and restoring the downtown area.
