With a population of just 1,200, the small coastal city of Harbor Springs is located in the northwestern corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Harbor Springs is nestled in Lake Michigan’s beautiful Little Traverse Bay. Whether it’s to enjoy the pleasant summer weather and water, or the snowy slopes of Boyne Highlands and Nub’s nob, the city attracts tourists year round.
The first half of the name of the town comes from its location on a wonderful natural harbor, the deepest on Lake Michigan. The ‘Springs’ part of the town’s name comes from the hundreds of natural springs located throughout the area from which fresh ground water continuously bubbles. Many businesses and homes are fed by spring water and the flow of many of these springs has been diverted and used for water fountains throughout the downtown area, providing pristine, constantly flowing water for visitors
