Grosse Pointe resides in the southeast region of Michigan in the Metro Detroit area. The origin of the Grosse Pointe name is unknown as well as the date of when it received its name. It contains five communities that makes up what is often referred to as “The Pointes” each of which resides along Lake St. Clair. These area: Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Grosse Pointe Shores. Discovered by French settlers in the mid 1700’s, Grosse Pointe originally was cultivated for its farmland and numerous fishing aand hunting opportunities along Lake St. Clair. Eventually Grosse Pointe was developed into a summer cottage destination for wealthy Detroit residents seeking relaxation away from the city.
