(5) Early Opera House – The Woodshop. Clarkston, MI

This is arguably the site of the first store in Clarkston, but the records are not clear. It is clear, however, that this building was the home to the local opera house in the early 1900s. Local groups would display productions that would be advertised in the newspaper. One example of this comes from the May 21st, 1921 edition of the local newspaper. The Davisburg ME church was putting on “The Danger Signal” for the public to go see. Six years following, the building unfortunately caught fire and was rebuilt the following year. It was home to a gun shop in 1953, and a beauty supply store in 1954. It is now the home of “Union Woodshop”, a BBQ restaurant downtown.
